Youth Leader Lauds Tinubu For Signing South East Devt Commission Bill Into Law

The Acting National Youth Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mr Chukwuma Okpalaezukwu has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing into law, South East Development Commission bill.

Speaking to newsmen in Awka, Mr Okpalaezukwu said that President Tinubu, through the move seems to have finally ended the marginalization of the South-East geopolitical zone as result of the Nigeria-Biafra civil war.

He recalled that the war, which ended on the treaty of Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, resurfaced through Biafran agitation following the federal government’s abandonment of the treaty.

The Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Leader expressed confidence that the Commission will not only heal the region, but further add value to collective efforts to restore peace and stability in Nigeria and Southeast in particular.

Mr Okpalaezukwu equally commended all the stakeholders who played critical roles in ensuring that the milestone was an achievement which he said is long overdue, particularly the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and his colleagues, Southeast Governors, among others.

He further maintained that the region is hopeful that the Commission shall be attended to, to demonstrate Reconciliation, enhance Rehabilitation and effect Reconstruction, and bring peace and stability in Nigeria and Southeast in particular

The bill, sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Right Honourable Benjamin Kalu, alongside other House members from the southeast region sought to establish a commission that will be saddled with the responsibility of receiving and managing funds from allocation of the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damage suffered by the region as a result of the effect of the civil war after fifty-four years.

The commission will, as well, tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the Southeast States of Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra as well as Ebonyi State.
