- Delta CJ Diai; AG, Ohwovoriole, Others Pay Tribute

THE Delta State Judiciary has paid special tribute to late Sylvester Ehikwe Esq, who meritoriously retired from public service as Secretary to the Delta State Judicial Service Commission.
The tribute, which was at the valedictory session, organized in his honour, was held, Friday, at the ceremonial hall of the state High Court Complex, Asaba.
Speaking during the valedictory session, the state Chief Judge, Justice Tessy Diai described the legal luminary as an amiable gentleman who worked assiduously during his time in service.
He was a thorough born bar man, who engaged in serious litigation for over 15 years prior to joining the service of Delta state. I have a good impression of his appearance in this court”.
“I can vividly recall that he exhibited dexterity, diligence and competence in the discharge of his professional duties to the court. He was a successful legal practitioner and a competent advocate”.
According to Justice Diai, “he was humble, honest, dutiful and sociable”. She urged his family to take solace in the fulfilled life he lived and the enduring legacies of good deeds he left behind.
The Attorney-General and commissioner for justice, Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole SAN, represented by the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Emamuzo Erebe Esquire, spoke highly of the deceased.
Ekemejero said, Ehikwe’s key understanding of the law and his commitment to fairness ensured that justice was served, even in the most challenging of circumstances, with a level of competence and professionalism that was truly remarkable.
“Ehikwe’s ability to facilitate mediation and resolve disputes without the need for lengthy trials, demonstrated his dedication to maintaining harmony and ensuring that justice was meted out with the highest level of Efficiency” Ekemejero noted.
According to Ekemejero, Ehikwe always strived to live a life of legacy, hard work and dedication, adding that his life was a testament to the values of leaving a good name behind, reminding us to strive to be diligent in our pursuit.
Also, Chike Onyemenem SAN said, he was a distinguished legal practitioner and of very high integrity.
Chairman Nigerian Bar Association(NBA), Asaba branch, Precious Nwadimuya Esq. revealed that his biography tells the story of a man who was determined to succeed in life. “He loved the law and practiced it fervently” he said.
Late Sylvester Ehikwe was appointed Chief Magistrate grade 2 in the Delta State judiciary in September 2000, Secretary to the Delta State Judicial Service Commision in 2013 and he retired in 2016. He died on June 23, 2024 at the age of 75.
