FG Extends Minimum Wage To NYSC

THE Federal Government has officially confirmed the long-awaited increase in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) allowance. It has now been aligned to  the new minimum wage of N70,000. The new rate, signed into law on July 30, represents a significant 112% rise from the current N33,000, reflecting the country’s current economic realities.

Corps members, who have been eagerly anticipating the implementation of the new minimum wage agreement, have taken to social media to express their excitement and gratitude. “This is a dream come true. We’ve been fighting for this for so long, and it’s finally a reality,” one corps member said.

The passage of the bill has brought relief to thousands of corps members serving across the country, who have been struggling to make ends meet with the current meager stipend. Tomilola Dada, a serving corps member in Delta State, said, “I was looking forward to the new allowance this month, but I’m still hopeful that it will come eventually. Next month, hopefully.”

As corps members celebrate this victory, they also acknowledge the efforts of stakeholders who advocated for the increase. Mercy Ugbor-aku, a serving corps member in Delta State, said, “We are grateful to the federal government and all those who have made this possible.

“This increase will make a significant difference in my life, even though I’ll be passing out in a few months. It will go a long way in helping me stand on my feet after service.”
