TraderS at the Ogbeogonogo ultra modern market, Asaba have explained why they shunned the 10-day nationwide protest across the country.
Some of the traders at the popular market spoke to The Pointer during a visit to the market.
Speaking on why they did not participate in the protests, a source said it was not the first of its kind and that such protests in the past did not yield any positive results.
Another trader, Mrs. Rosaline Ahamefune said as “a tomato seller, joining the protest, would be a huge loss because I am selling a perishable product and it would have amounted to shutting down the business.”
She said that as a perishable staple, she cannot risk allowing her commodity which she had spent huge amounts of money to purchase to waste in the name of fighting for a course that may not bear tangible fruits.
A fish seller, Mrs. Ngozi Akudo said it was so sad that the Tinubu government has not given due attention to their plea for good governance, adding that it was not the first time they were coming out to express their feelings about his style of governance.
The trader said she does not see her engagement in the current protest as a way towards a better Nigeria, which was why she did not participate in the nationwide demonstration.
Meanwhile, Mr. Stephen Nduka, a cosmetics seller, said he feels for the future of the young generation, with the rising cost of living.
According to Nduka, protesting which he feared would be hijacked by hoodlums, was not the way to go as it could lead to the destruction of all that the traders had laboured to invest.
