IT was a herald of a new dawn at the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC), on Friday, following the unveiling of a rebranded news website, thepointersnewsonline.com, for The Pointer Newspapers.

The Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi during the unveiling, expressed confidence that in no time, The Pointer would be the most-read newspaper in the country.

According to the lawmaker, his previous reservations concerning the state-owned media outfit have been assuaged, following recent developments. “On behalf of the House Committee on Information, I want to applaud the Board Chairman, management and staff of this organization for a job well done.

“The launch of this rebranded news website is a right step in the right direction and I express my deepest commendations. The Chairman and leadership have shown so much zeal and I know that in no time, the paper would climb to the national level “.

The Chairman, Board of Directors of DPPC, Dr Ebenezer Okorodudu, while reeling out success stories, submitted that the company was in dire need of a complete printing press.

“Within a short time that we came in as a board, the company has moved from printing 16,000 copies to over 30,000 copies daily, without recording any unsold copies.

“As it stands, The Pointer has a subscription to the 25 Local Government Areas of the state. We are also working through the Majority Leader, to ensure that every member of the State House of Assembly subscribes as well as all ministries in the state.

“I want to commend the efforts of the current and past General Managers who have continued to work to see that the dreams we have for this organization are achieved.

“With the strides we have recorded, I can boldly say that confidence in the paper has been restored “, he noted.

In his welcome address, the Acting General Manager of DPPC, Mr Godfrey Ubaka, noted that the website unveiling ceremony served as a significant development in online journalism.

“What we have gathered to do is to witness the unveiling of a rebranded previously existing news site, now tailored to meet global standards.

“As an organization with such wealth of experience as we have, we are adequately prepared to thrive in the online news space, standing on the tripod of ethics, professionalism and truth”.

In his goodwill message, globally-acclaimed environmentalist and Founder of Mandela Garden, Chief Newton Jibunor, said “Being called upon to write a column for The Pointer is one of the greatest honours I have received and I am not planning on retiring from that privilege”.

Speaking on behalf of former General Managers of the corporation, Mr Monday Uwagwu harped on the urgent need for the corporation to get a permanent site. “Nothing is being done at the Guardian that we cannot do here at The Pointer; the same way AIT is not doing anything different from DBS. All that our people need is just the political support of our leaders and we can go any height”.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, represented by the Functioning

Permanent Secretary, Mrs Theresa Oliko and a Senior Director in the ministry, Mr Harold Oji. Also present were former General Managers of the…
