…Urge FG To Revive Nation’s Refineries
PROTESTERS have stormed the Eleme/Onne section of the East/West Road in Rivers State to register their displeasure over the economic hardship experienced across Nigeria.
Occupying the popular section of the road that connects the Port Harcourt refineries, the angry protesters disrupted vehicular movement in the area.
They expressed their dissatisfaction over the incessant hunger, poverty, and high cost of food items in the country while stating that the government at all levels has failed to address the needs of the people.
The protesters also stated that they were not satisfied with the Federal Government’s appeal for the people to call off the nationwide protest.
One of the protesters, Wilson Idah, said they chose to occupy that particular section of the road due to its viable business potential.
“We need the government to revive the refineries, which have so many employment and empowerment opportunities for us,” Idah said.
“In spite of the huge economic potential in the business area, we are unemployed, hungry, and poor. We are not taking any palliatives from politicians. We need jobs, good roads, affordable electricity, and basic infrastructure,” he added.
