Once united Sapele chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into disarray following the emergence of two chairmen from different factions of the party.
The crisis started after the two factions of the party held their Congress, each produce a chairman to run the affairs of the party, Chief Godwin Dadi was reelected by one faction while Chief Dr Akpufuoma Lawrence Pemu was elected by the other faction.
This development has left party members and stakeholders in a confused state, with many expressing concern over the implications of the crisis on the party’s chances in future elections.
A party chieftain, who preferred anonymity, said “How can we expect to win elections when we can’t even conduct a simple congress without controversy? I don’t know who to acknowledge as my party chairman at the moment. This is not the first time we are experiencing this kind of crisis. But this one is particularly worrisome because of the implications for the party’s future.”
