BY  JUMAI NWACHUKWU

AS part of the Delta State Government’s mission to enhance primary education, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, embarked on an advocacy and interactive visit to Oshimili South Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) and the Asagba’s Palace to discuss the future of education in Delta State.

This initiative is part of a broader campaign targeting all 25 local government areas to rally support for educational reforms.

In his address, Mariere emphasized that the visit and interactions underscored the collaborative spirit needed to propel Delta State’s educational system forward, ensuring that every child received the foundational knowledge critical to their future success.

During the visit, Hon. Mariere met with key stakeholders, including the Vice Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, the Local Education Authority Secretary, head teachers, and School-Based Management Committee members. He highlighted the Delta State Government’s dedication to promoting quality education and reiterated the administration’s commitment to the welfare of retirees, proudly announcing that the backlog of retirement benefits had been cleared up to 2022, with ongoing efforts to maintain this momentum.

“Asaba’s rich educational heritage and the state government’s proactive measures combine to create a promising future for primary education in the region, fostering an environment where learning and excellence continue to thrive,” Mariere stated.

In his remarks, the Regent of Asagba, Engr. Lewis Edozien, pledged the unwavering support of both the Asagba Palace and the Asaba community. He assured Mariere that the community was ready to collaborate on the state’s educational policies and programs, emphasizing that primary education is the cornerstone for future academic and professional success.

Similarly, the Education Secretary of Oshimili South Local Government Education Authority, Comr. Apollonia Chukwudi, applauded the SUBEB Chairman for his commitment to the education sector. She noted that his visit was symbolic, marking the beginning of efforts to improve teachers’ welfare, upgrade infrastructure, and elevate the primary school system from its rudderless past.

However, she also highlighted challenges facing the Local Government Education Authority and some schools in the capital, such as Amakom Primary School 1 in Oko-Amakom and Okwe Primary School in Okwe.
