Residents Decry Solar Light Vandalization, Demand Investigation

CONCERNED citizens in some parts of communities of Delta North Senatorial District of Delta State have appealed to the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the State Commissioner of Police (CP) to investigate the vandalization of the recently installed ultra-modern multi-million naira solar electricity and its component attached to the bus stop single-handedly donated for public use by an Ibusa indigene based in America, Chief Dilichukwu Igweze.

The call was made by some of the affected residents, where the solar electricity lights were vandalized, including parts of Asaba, the state capital, Ogwashi Uku, Ubulu-Uku, Ibusa, etc.

A community leader in one of the vandalized areas, Chief Ndubuisi Aduba said that it WAs a thing of regret that any right-thinking person could engage in the vandalization of the solar electricity lights attached to the bus stop, stressing that there was a need for the security agents, as well as the local vigilante, to rise up to their responsibilities and guard the bus stop and its component in addition to arresting and prosecuting the suspects caught.

Others spoke in the same vein, including some market women, who described the bus stop as a big relief to them from the scorching sun, during the rains, and even at night as it keeps away hoodlums from the spot.

A youth leader from one of the communities described the act as worrisome and attributed the ugly situation to a lack of visible means of livelihood, especially amongst school leavers, who as a result of lack of work to make ends meet go about and engage in various dubious acts.

A youth leader, who pleaded for anonymity, however ,condemned the ugly trend and called for effective surveillance of the bus stop and electricity solar lights gadget attached to it just like he commended the financier of the project urging him not to relent. He also called on traditional rulers of the various communities of the area to join hands with their subjects to ensure continued and daily surveillance of the spot where the bus stops are located.
