EFCC Denies Twitter Account Hack

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, has refuted allegations that its Twitter account was hacked.

The spokesman for the commission, Dele Oyewale, attributed the recent outage to routine maintenance and upgrading of the agency’s social media platform.

“The official Twitter account has been unavailable for three days straight, sparking speculation that it may have been compromised by a group of suspected Cyber criminals.

The page now displays a message reading, “This account doesn’t exist.”

However, Mr Oyewale clarified that the temporary unavailability of its X account was a result of internal technical work aimed at enhancing its online presence.

The agency assured the public that the measure was precautionary and not a response to any cyberattack or security breach.

He said, “The report about the cyberattack is not true. Nobody hacked our Twitter account. EFCC’s account was not hacked. We are updating it.

“I’m telling you now that the hack is not hacked, we are only updating it and as usual they will ask you questions and we are supplying them, to also update it to suit global standards. Our ICT head just met me now to brief me about how far they have gone.”

“We are updating it to ensure that we have a more globally X account,” he added.
