COMMUNITY leaders in Delta State have been urged to maintain the existing peace in their domain to attract development to their locality.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, made the appeal on the occasion of the Udu Kingdom stakeholders’ meeting attended by the traditional council, presidents-general, and executive members of the 32 communities, women bodies, youth bodies, who are who in government and sons and daughters of Udu Kingdom at the Ovie Palace, Otor-Udu.
Chief Uzor revealed that the two factions of the Union of Udu Communities (UUC) stood dissolved as the Traditional Council Edict of 1979 stands. He warned anyone parading himself as president-general of UUC will be arrested and prosecuted.
He said the seven Ruling Houses of the Udu Kingdom should nominate a member from each ruling house, while the traditional council and government will submit one person each to make up a nine-man caretaker committee that will serve for at least three months and also midwife the election of the UUC.
He appealed to all to appreciate and support the noble arrangement from the government.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman to Udu Local Government, Hon. Chief Vincent Oyibode disclosed that the government’s position on UUC leadership was that it stands dissolved and that the 1979 Edict of the Traditional Council stands. He thanked all sons and daughters of the Udu Kingdom and government officials, who made the sacrifices to honor the invitation to the Udu stakeholders meeting. He said those present wanted the peace, unity, and progress of the Udu Kingdom.
Hon. Oyibode appealed to all to always support the government’s decision to witness much development since development can only take place where there is disunity.
In his speech, the Otota of Udu Kingdom, Chief Sam Odibo representing His Royal Majestic Bethel E. Delekpe Ohwhoru 1 the Ovie of Udu Kingdom said the 1979 Traditional Council Edict stand and that nobody will temper with it or utter it.
In his contributions, Chief Godwin Notoma, a former President-General to UUC, thanked those who worked hard to convene the Udu Stakeholders meeting that assisted in taking resolutions that will move the Udu Kingdom forward. He revealed that the new Udu Kingdom had been formed the way it was in the days of his forefathers.
High points of the stakeholders meeting -are the signing of the communique on the resolution by the seven members of the Ruling Houses, the two former factional Presidents-General, Chief Austin Emaduku, and Chief Moses Uparah, Traditional Council member, and the Council Chairman.
