DTSG Resolves Udu Leadership Tussle

The Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has intervened in the leadership crisis of the Union of Udu Communities (UUC), dissolving the rival factions led by Augustine Emaduku and Moses Uparan, respectively.

This resolution was announced by the Chairman of Udu Local Government, Vincent Oyibode at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the palace of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom in Otor-Udu, the headquarters of Udu Local Government Area. The Governor also resolved the contentious issue of upholding the 1979 Edict, which ensures rational leadership in the Udu Kingdom.  It was also resolved that a caretaker committee would be set up, comprising representatives from the seven ruling houses, the Ovie of Udu, and the Delta State Government, to oversee the activities of the UUC and conduct elections for a substantive executive.

The representative of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, Chief Samuel Odibo, commended the State Government for its peace initiative, promising that the Ovie stands for peace and also the people for Udu

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, advised the factions to relinquish their offices and praised the people of Udu for embracing peace.
