… As Delta INEC REC Visits Sapele

THE Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Chief Bright Abeke, recently played host to the Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Hon. Etekamba Umoren, and his team, who were on a working visit to Sapele.
Speaking during the visit, the council chairman, Chief Bright Abeke, said “the electoral process is one of the most critical pillars of our nascent democracy, and it requires utmost integrity, transparency and fairness.
Abeke further emphasized the significance of a smooth, effective, and well-organized electoral system, seeking the commission’s intervention to engage the electorates through sensitization campaigns to enhance voters’ participation and electoral credibility as well as create an enabling environment where eligible voters can exercise their civic rights to vote.
He vowed to work closely with INEC to ensure the process is seamless and that all logistical challenges are addressed well ahead of time, to foster a peaceful and credible election, “there is no fear in Sapele as regards security as everywhere is well secured” he remarked.
Responding, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Delta State, Hon Etekamba Udo Umoren, thanked the Sapele council boss for his warm reception, and congratulated him on his election victory and subsequent swearing-in ceremony.
He used the opportunity to highlight its primary objective to oversee the electoral processes in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections across the state, promising to create more Polling Units when necessary.
These key responsibilities outlined by the Resident Electoral Commissioner include: registration of voters, conducting voter registration exercises, voter education, promoting knowledge of sound democratic election processes, and conducting voter education programmes.
