RENOWNED human rights activist and International Relations expert, Ambassador Fidelis Onakpoma, has called on Deltans to focus on the developmental impact of newly approved infrastructure projects rather than engaging in political antagonism.
Speaking with The Pointer, Onakpoma commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to improving lives through the recently approved N275 billion infrastructure projects covering healthcare, roads, sports, and education.
He, however, expressed concern over politically motivated criticism, describing it as an attempt to discredit the administration for personal or partisan interests.
Onakpoma emphasised that the projects, distributed across all three senatorial districts, were designed to benefit every ethnic group in the state. Addressing claims that some communities were overlooked, he clarified that allocations were made based on senatorial representation rather than individual towns.
“It is disappointing that instead of recognising the long-term benefits of these projects, some individuals are attempting to politicise them,” Onakpoma added.
Dismissing allegations that opposition-controlled areas were deliberately excluded, he reassured residents that more developments were planned and that future projects would reach additional communities.
He also lauded the administration’s transparency in awarding contracts, highlighting that 40% mobilisation funding had already been provided without resorting to borrowing, evident of the governor’s prudent financial management.
Onakpoma urged Deltans to reject divisive politics and support the governor’s vision, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Delta State’s progress.
