Adult Education Gains Momentum In Delta

BY DIANA OLUWOLE/PAULET AFOHRON/SARAH OGUMA

The Udu Community has applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s groundbreaking efforts to make education accessible for all through the Delta State Adult Education Programme.

This initiative, a core component of the Governor’s “MORE Agenda,” is aimed at providing both adults and youth who missed out on formal schooling with the opportunity to gain literacy and education, bridging longstanding educational gaps in the state.

At a meeting in the Ujevwe Community, the Chairman of the Udu Community Secretaries, Ovuomarhoma Ejovwo, underscored the importance of adult literacy in empowering Udu residents. He noted that the programme holds tremendous significance, especially in an era where declining educational standards are a global concern.

Ejovwo commended Governor Oborevwori’s visionary leadership and dedication to educational reforms that prioritize underserved populations in Delta State. “This programme gives our youth and adults a second chance to embrace education and dispel the misguided notion that ‘education is a scam,’” he stated.

Further endorsements came from other community leaders, including community secretaries representing Egini, Ukpereren, Okolo Waterside, and Opete communities. Leaders such as Emmanuel Okotete, Andrew Doro, and Emmanuel Oghi, pledged to encourage maximum participation in the programme, despite acknowledging challenges like transportation.

Personal testimonies added a heartfelt note to the occasion. 78-year-old Madam Agnes Oguna and Mrs. Margaret Julius from the Ujevwe Community expressed gratitude to the Governor for this life-changing initiative, viewing it as a chance to achieve an education that once seemed out of reach.

The UCS Chairman affirmed the commitment to collaborate with the Delta State Government to fulfil the goals of the “MORE Agenda’’. He expressed optimism that the Udu communities would fully benefit from this progressive policy, which aims to uplift and educate citizens across Delta State.
