Agofure Cautions Road Users As Vandals Loot Traffic Lights In Delta

BY EJOOR ONOHARIGHO

Delta State Transport Commissioner, Mr Onoriode Agofure has appealed to motorists and other road users to exercise more caution in junctions with faulty traffic lights across the State.

Agofure made the appeal after he inspected the junctions with faulty traffic lights in the state capital, in company of the Director of Land Transport, Engr Emmanuel Akpojotor.

During the inspection, they observed that the problem bedeviling the faulty traffic lights, has to do with vandalism (stealing batteries powering the traffic lights, especially at the Maryam Babangida junction, leading to the Prof Chike Edozien Secretariat Complex and the one at the cross junction of Delta Broadcasting Station).

The commissioner showed his displeasure over the incidence, stressing that traffic lights are very important in controlling vehicular movements, and wondered why some people always want chaos in a system that is organised.

He warned individuals or group of people that specialize in vandalizing government installations to desist or face prosecution if caught

Agofure, however, appealed to all road users to always obey the personnel of Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) controlling traffic, not to record road crashes in such areas with traffic light encumbrances.

He assured the public, that the issues concerning the repairs and fortification of the traffic lights accessories was being handled with the seriousness it deserves.

Agofure charged the Director of Land Transport Engr Emmanuel Akpojotor to deploy secured mechanism to guard against future vandalism.
