Delta State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele has inspected the ongoing social housing project in Owa-Oyibu, the headquarters of Ika North-East Local Government Area.
During the inspection, he reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s dedication to addressing the housing needs of residents. He assured that the state government was fully committed to providing quality housing infrastructure.
As part of his visit, he also assessed the Battalion 181 barracks project, a three-story building designed to accommodate security personnel. The structure consists of 10 flats per floor, making a total of 30 flats, including a one-bedroom apartment on each level.
He emphasized the importance of the project, noting that many military personnel were currently stationed outside the barracks. “Once completed, they will be able to move in and enhance security in the area”, he said.
Angele further assured that the project would include essential amenities, such as water borehole, a solar-power system, and a shopping mall. He expressed confidence that the housing development would be completed and commissioned within two years.
Speaking at the site, the Project contractor, Engineer Andy, provided further details on the Owa-Oyibu social housing initiative. He explained that the project comprises 30 two-bedroom flats across 15 blocks, along with 20 three-bedroom flats. Initially conceived as a low-cost housing project, it has been upgraded to a social housing initiative to improve living standards.
He confirmed that work was progressing steadily and that the project was expected to be completed before April this year.
