THE Commander, Asaba Area Zonal Command of the Anti-Cult Volunteer Group, Ogbueshi Nnamdi Ogwuda, has raised the alarm over the return of commercial motorcyclists in some parts of Okpanam kingdom, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
Ogbueshi Ogwuda, who made the disclosure in a chat with our correspondent in Okpanam, decried a situation where the government after banning the operations of the cyclists, did not put adequate measures in place to enforce the order.
He noted that it was only few days after the ban that security operatives were seen parading the areas but there was no long term arrangement to enforce the ban, hence some unscrupulous motorcyclists are now returning to continue their operations in some axis of Okpanam namely; Amachai and Ogbe- Ojie.
The Okpanam born Anti- Cult Commander, however noted that the ban to an extent helped to reduce security challenges posed by criminal elements who use motorcycle to perpetrate crimes in the community and call on the government to put machinery in place to ensure compliance.
Ogbueshi Ogwuda maintained that the Anti-Cult Volunteer group, the community Vigilante and Hunters are doing their best to secure the community, but they have not been receiving the necessary support from the government as their work is a voluntary service to the community.
On the security situation in the community, he enthused that they are committed to the people’s security, working in collaboration with the Vigilante group and Hunters. He emphasized that there have been significant improvements as far as security is concerned in Okpanam compared to what was happening in the past.
He called on the government to come to their aid as a voluntary service oriented outfit that is committed to complementing the efforts of the police in the maintenance of peace and security in the community. Adding that any support by the government will assist in sustaining and improving the existing security in the area.
