Arewa Revival Project (ARP) Opposes 48-Hour Ultimatum Issued By Arewa Youth Assembly

By Emmanuella Oghenetega

In response to the 48 hour ultimatum issued by the Arewa Youth Assembly For Good Leadership (AYAGL), to Senator Godswill Akpabio concerning the suspension of Senator Natasha Uduaghan, the Arewa Revival Project (ARP) has categorically opposed the action.

In a statement signed by Muttaka Ahmed Ibrahim, the Project Coordinator, Arewa Revival Project (ARP), it was stated, that while the ARP respects the right of any organization or individual to express their concerns, they believe that the approach taken by the AYAGL is inflammatory, divisive, and ultimately counterproductive to the peace and stability of our great nation.

“We, therefore, find it necessary to set the record straight and urge all concerned citizens to adopt more responsible and peaceful avenues for resolving grievances.”

The statement further revealed, that the language used by Ambassador Abdul Danbature, Speaker of AYAGL, in calling for mass protests and the occupation of the National Assembly is deeply troubling.

“It is an affront to the democratic processes and institutions that serve as the backbone of our governance system. Such ultimatums not only disregard the established rules and regulations governing the operations of the National Assembly, but they also incite unnecessary tension and unrest.

“It is essential to remember that the suspension of any senator, including Senator Natasha Uduaghan, follows due process, and the circumstances surrounding such actions must be examined through established legal and procedural frameworks, rather than through knee-jerk reactions fueled by emotion or partisanship.”

According to the statement, the ARP stated, that while it understands and empathizes with concerns regarding fairness, equity, and justice, it is important to approach such
matters through constructive dialogue and legal channels.

“Threats of mass protests and disruptive actions are not the solution to issues within our political system. The Arewa Revival Project strongly believes in the power of peaceful engagement, mutual respect, and adherence to the rule of law as the most effective means of resolving disputes.

“The allegations raised by Senator Natasha Uduaghan must be thoroughly investigated through a transparent and impartial process. However, such an investigation must be free of political interference, and all parties involved must allow the truth to come to light without succumbing to undue pressure or sensationalism. This will ensure justice and accountability in a manner that upholds the dignity of all those involved, while protecting the sanctity of our democratic institutions.”

Furthermore, the Arewa Revival Project calls for a firm stance against individuals or political actors who use or incite violence as a tool for political gain. It has become evident thatsome elements within our political system have resorted to sponsoring violence and unrest to further their own interests.

“These actions must be unequivocally condemned, and those responsible should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Politicians who sponsor or encourage violence must be sanctioned to prevent further destabilization of our democracy. Violence is never an acceptable political strategy, and it should never be tolerated by any responsible leader or institution.”

ARP therefore urged, that all Northern-based NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) remain impartial, law-abiding, and focused on their mission of serving the people.

Stating, “It is crucial that the credibility of our organizations is not compromised by partisanship or political gamesmanship. In these challenging times, the Northern region and the entire nation need more constructive voices and actions that promote peace, unity, and progress.

“The Arewa Revival Project calls on all politicians, past and present, to understand that true leadership is about service to the people, not the pursuit of personal interests or political vendettas. Political leaders must put the nation above their ambitions and engage in actions that support the greater good of the people they represent.

“Leaders who fail to contribute meaningfully to national progress should stepaside and allow those who are committed to serving the nation to do so without unnecessary distractions.

“The Arewa Revival Project remains committed to the peaceful development, unity, and progress of Northern Nigeria.

“We will continue to advocate for the interests of the Northern people through peaceful, lawful, and responsible channels. We call for the cessation of any acts that threaten the stability of our country and encourage all Nigerians to work together in the spirit of cooperation and national solidarity.
