Armed Forces Remembrance: Oborevwori Urges Prayers For Fallen Heroes

BY IFEANYI UWAGWU/RITA OYIBOKA

The Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has called for national prayers for Nigeria’s military personnel, especially in remembrance of those who have sacrificed their lives in service to the nation.

The governor’s message was conveyed following the Jumat prayers held at the Central Mosque in Cable Point, Asaba.

The event was part of the activities commemorating Armed Forces Remembrance Day, which will be observed globally on January 15.

Represented by the Chairman of the State Muslim Pilgrims Board, Alhaji Auwalu Takur, the governor highlighted the critical role of the military in safeguarding the country from internal and external threats.

“Nigeria needs prayers, especially for our military, as they continue to protect us,” he said.

Addressing the state’s progress, Takur praised Governor Oborevwori’s efforts in fostering peace and development in Delta. “When you look at the developments across the state; construction projects, employment opportunities, and increasing investor confidence, you can see the progress we are making.

‘’The peace we enjoy in Delta is the foundation of this growth, and it is made possible by our military and security personnel who work tirelessly to keep us safe,” he said.

In response to concerns about the neglect of retired military personnel and widows of fallen soldiers, the State Muslim Pilgrims Board Chairman assured that the federal government is committed to addressing their needs.

“The president’s administration will ensure veterans and their families receive the necessary support,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff, 63 Brigade Nigerian Army, Colonel Mutiu Olaseni stressed the significance of the day as a moment of reflection and unity.

In a similar vein, the Imam of the 63 Brigade Mosque, Captain Isa Ahmed, in his sermon, called for prayers for the departed and their families. “We ask Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them paradise. Their sacrifice for the peace and unity of our nation will never be forgotten,” he said.

Captain Ahmed further urged Nigerians to remain united in addressing the nation’s security challenges. “Only through unity can we overcome the obstacles ahead,” he stressed.
