The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has debunked false information from a misleading video circulating on TikTok claiming that an increase in ART drug prices will lead to a widespread outbreak of HIV.
According to a statement signed by Adebobola Bashorun, Director/National Coordinator NASCP, this claim and information within are totally false.
The statement revealed, that ART (Antiretroviral Therapy) drugs are free for HIV patients, and are taken daily.
The drugs are also available and
accessible in health facilities when prescribed by health professionals.
The ministry further revealed that the government and various partners have in fact implemented measures to ensure uninterrupted access to ART drugs for those who need them.
“Let’s put our minds at rest – HIV transmission can and should be prevented with proper precautions. Treatment is available for those living with the virus.”
