Asaba Community Raises Funds For Asagba’s N3bn Palace Project

CONCERNED about the absence of a permanent palace for the Asagba of Asaba, sons and daughter of the host community of the state capital at home and abroad, on Saturday converged in Asaba to raise funds for the project

The fund raising was one of the activities lined up to celebrate the coronation of the 14th Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge (SAN), which commenced on January 1, 2025.

About N1 billion was realized at the occasion.

The project site is on DLA road, Asaba and sits on 28,860 square metres of land, with proposals for such facilities as the palace, an administrative block, a museum, a library, a pavilion, a multi – purpose hall, among others.

Earlier on, a member of the Organizing Committee and Research Assistant to the Asagba, Dr. Victor Amuwah, highlighted the need for a befitting permanent palace for the Asagba of Asaba, which His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge (SAN) was determined to achieve.

Dr. Amuwah urged sons and daughters of Asaba, as well as friends and well-wishers of Asagba (Prof) Azinge and the Asaba community to donate generously to the project.

He revealed that the ultra – modern palace was expected to cost N2 billion, while the ancillary facilities would gulp N1 billion, pointing out that the community hoped to deliver the projects by the end of the year.

The fund raising, which was attended by the Obis, Olinzeles, Ogbueshis, among other traditional groups in Asaba, was preceded by the unveiling of a prototype of the palace, designed by an indigene, Architect Patrick Elikwu.

The coronation celebration was rounded off yesterday with a thanksgiving at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, West End, Asaba.
