Asagbaship: Azinge’s Emergence Lesson For Democracy –Prof Of Medicine

• Hails New Asaba Monarch

Encomiums continue to pour in following the emergence of Obi (Prof) Epiphany Azinge SAN as the 14th Asagba of Asaba, a development that has particularly thrilled a former Chairman of the Nigerian Health Commissioners Forum, Chief (Prof.) Nick Azinge.

In his congratulatory message, Chief Nick Azinge described the emergence of Prof. Epiphany Azinge out of nine other qualified candidates as a testament to his exemplary leadership qualities, outstanding track record of service to humanity, deep understanding of Asaba traditions and culture, and unwavering dedication to the Asaba community. The professor of medicine highlighted Obi (Prof) Azinge’s illustrious career, noting that his leadership excellence has been evident throughout the various positions he has held, including his tenure as Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), President of the Commonwealth Arbitral Tribunal, and President-General of the Asaba Development Union Worldwide (PG-ADUWW).

Referring to Prof. Azinge’s autobiography, Azinge: Born to Serve, Chief Nick Azinge emphasized that the new Asaba monarch’s remarkable career as a legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria has brought immense pride to the Azinge family, Asaba, Delta State, and Nigeria as a whole.

He expressed confidence that Azinge’s leadership would usher in a new era of peace, development, progress, and prosperity for the people of Asaba and Delta State.  Azinge, a former Delta State commissioner for health, also called on all Asaba indigenes, particularly those who were not selected, to set aside their differences and join hands with the new Asagba in a united effort to achieve the developmental goals of the Asaba kingdom.

In the same vein, he urged all sons and daughters of Asaba, both at home and in the diaspora, to come together in unity to build a more egalitarian society where everyone’s voice is heard and future generations can be proud to call Asaba their home.‘’In the now famous words of Kamala Harris, our United States of America’s Presidential candidate, Asaba!! “We are not going back” Forward we move!’’ Let us strive to build an Egalitarian Asaba society where everyone’s voice will be heard and in which our children, present and future generations yet unborn, will be bold and proud to call home.

‘’I beckon on all sons and daughters of Asaba both at home and in the diaspora, to come together as one, in unity of purpose, to articulate and actualize a defined new mission and vision for a better developed and more prosperous Asaba kingdom.

‘’Let us all bring our best potentials to bear and offer ourselves and services to our 14th Asagba of Asaba. So that together, we can take our beloved town, Asaba, to greater heights’’ he said.

Chief Nick Azinge also commended the democratic process that led to Prof. Azinge’s selection as the 14th Asagba of Asaba, describing it as a model worthy of emulation by political parties, politicians, ancient kingdoms, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
