Attacks In Parts Of Delta North Worrisome –Anioma Trad Rulers

  • Seek Political Representatives’ Intervention

Traditional rulers in Delta North Senatorial district have challenged those representing the people at all levels to immediately tackle the  attacks by suspected herders in parts of the area.

Rising from their quarterly meeting at the Palace of the monarch of Owa-Oyibu, Ika North East Local Government Area of the state, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, the monarchs, under the aegis of Anioma Traditional Rulers Forum said, the issue had bedeviled parts of the area and negatively impacted on rural  communities within the district.

“We are alarmed at the devastating menace on our land, to the extent that many of our people no longer go to their farms for fear of either being killed or kidnapped, while our women are being constantly raped and abused by the criminals, who have taken over the thick forests and the bushes as their places of abode”, the monarchs said.

“Are these issues not enough challenge for our representatives to address?”, they queried in a statement.

They, therefore, unanimously appealed to the political representatives of the people, not to “be aloof while the situation gets out of hand, but rise up to the challenge to protect the Anioma people and their means of livelihoods.

According to the monarchs, “the generality of the areas involved are angry following the menace.

The people are, therefore, looking up to them to resolve the  problem, as it will impact on food availability as well as bring about other socio-economic woes. They urged them to  fulfill their electioneering campaign promises to cater for their constituents’ welfare.

The meeting was attended by about 25 Delta North traditional rulers, among whom were; the Obi   of Issele Uku, Ugo Ani of Okpanam,   Obi of Mbiri,  Obi of Umunede, Ukwata of Umukwata. Others who attended the meeting were former deputy governor of Delta State, Chief BSC Elue , Hon. Victor Nwokolo, Hon. Emeka Elekeokuri, Chief Dan Okenyi, among other critical stakeholders.
