THE Auditor-General for Local Government, Mr. Ikenna Ukpaka has embarked on a comprehensive inspection tour of several ongoing and completed projects in Ethiope East, Okpe, and Ughelli South Local Government Areas.
The visit, part of an ongoing Project Monitoring Exercise according the state’s 25 Local Government Areas, aimed to assess the progress and impact of various infrastructural developments initiated by local government authorities.
In Ethiope East, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Augustine Ogedegbe welcomed Mr. Ukpaka and his team, guiding them through significant projects, including the beautification of the council premises in two phases and the renovation and upgrading of the main administrative building at the Council Secretariat in Isiokolo.
The team also inspected the renovated old Chairman’s office block, highlighting the local government’s commitment to improving its facilities.
Moving to Okpe Local Government, the Auditor-General was greeted by the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Isaiah Esiovwa, who showcased completed projects such as the fencing of the front section of the Council Secretariat and the rehabilitation of the old Council Secretariat building.
The inspection also included the legislative chambers and offices for councilors and staff, which have been revitalized to enhance legislative functions.
In Ughelli South, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dr. Lucky Anweromer received the Auditor-General and his team, leading them through various development sites. The projects inspected included the construction of a security gatehouse, the installation of solar panels, and the renovation of a primary healthcare centre at Okwagbe.
Additionally, the team examined a water supply project at Baba-Ido Primary School and the rehabilitation of the Chairman’s official quarters at the Otu-Jeremi Council Secretariat, alongside the legislative arm building.
Mr. Ukpaka commended the local governments for their efforts in driving development but emphasized the importance of ensuring these projects deliver tangible benefits to the community.
He urged the council officials to prioritize transparency and accountability in their operations, ensuring that public resources are effectively utilized for the betterment of their constituencies.
