Bayelsa CPS Congratulates New NUJ Chairman

BY WISDOM OKIOKIO

THE Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Daniel Alabrah has extended his congratulations to Mr. Tonye Yemoleigha on his election as the new chairman of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

In a statement issued yesterday, Mr. Alabrah described Yemoleigha’s victory in Saturday’s election as a testament to the widespread acceptance of his campaign promises by council delegates and members. He emphasized that the outcome reflects the confidence placed in Yemoleigha’s ability to steer the council effectively.

The governor’s spokesperson urged the new NUJ chairman to honor his campaign pledges by fostering inclusive, transparent, and accountable leadership. He called on Yemoleigha and his team to uphold the dignity and integrity of the media while championing innovative ideas to enhance the reputation of journalists in the state.

Alabrah further appealed to all members of the council, regardless of the election outcome, to unite for the progress of the NUJ in Bayelsa.

“The election of a new NUJ chairman should not be seen as a winner-takes-all affair. The media, as a noble profession, must exemplify positive leadership,” Alabrah stated. “I urge the new leadership to prioritize the collective interests of members above all else.”

He concluded by expressing optimism about Yemoleigha’s tenure, saying, “I congratulate Mr. Tonye Yemoleigha and the new executive of the Bayelsa Council of the NUJ. I hope their leadership will usher in a new era of progress for the council and the broader journalism community in Bayelsa.”
