BY PATRICK MGBODO
The Delta State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko yesterday underscored the need for more funding for the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC) to thrive in a competitive media industry.
Bayoko who said this when the management of DPPC, publishers of The Pointer titles visited him noted that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was deeply committed to improving service delivery as demonstrated by his budgetary allocation for the media house.
‘’the industry in which you operate requires funding, capital injection from the shareholder which is the government. For you to make a difference, you require support. I think the Governor understood that issue and that was what gave rise to the budgetary provision’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko, approved the immediate removal of Mr Fidelis Arafiena, a staff member of the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC), from the government payroll.
According to him, ‘’Recently, the governor has been frowning at such cases of absenteeism. He says those involved and the line supervisors will be held accountable, and he is taking it very seriously.
‘’For this man (Arafiena), we need his name, designation and computer number. We will take it out of the payroll immediately and investigate why that name has remained on the payroll until now. That name should go off the payroll today (yesterday) Bayoko directed.
Addressing other issues, the Head of Service also said he had approved the promotion of qualified officers from Salary Grade Level 16 to Salary Grade Level 17 in the establishment.
On the suspension of the salaries of officers who were indebted to the establishment, the Head of Service directed that the salaries be restored following payment of debts by the affected officers.
He further directed that the management of DPPC liaise with its supervising ministry to operationalize the law as it concerned the position of a Managing Director with a tenured appointment since the establishment transited from a company to a corporation status.
Among other things, Bayoko shared kind words for the board Chairman of DPPC, Olorogun (Dr) Ebenezer Okorodudu, for his selflessness and passion to move the corporation to newer heights.
Earlier, the General Manager of DPPC, Mr Ubaka, thanked the Head of Service for his support and instrumentality in repositioning the newspaper house, recognizing that his (Bayoko) term has recorded unprecedented levels of professionalism and reforms in the state civil service.
Consequently, Mr Ubaka drew the attention of the Head of Service to some issues which include career progression, official accommodation challenges, discipline and staff welfare, among others.
