Bayoko Debunks Misconceptions Regarding Success In Civil Service

BY PATRICK MGBODO

THE Delta State Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, yesterday debunked the misconception that success in the civil service is driven by “connection” rather than merit.

Declaring open a one-day orientation course for newly admitted students at the State Staff Training Center (STC) in Asaba, Bayoko emphasized that success in the civil service is not driven by personal connections but by competence, dedication and the value one brings to the system.

Bayoko, while inspiring the students, reminded them of their integral roles in the smooth running of the civil service, urging them to internalize the lessons from the course to become more efficient and productive officers.

He stressed that the training was designed to equip them with the new knowledge, set skills and best practices to help them perform optimally in line with an ever-evolving public service with increasing demands.

The Head of Service thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to civil service reforms and human capital development, stressing that his (Oborevwori) policies have created the enabling environment for capacity-building initiatives.

In the same vein, he charged civil servants in the state to continue supporting the MORE Agenda and playing their part in its actualization, with dedication and excellence.

“There is a common misconception that success in the civil service is about ‘who you know.  Let me shock you—it is not only about who you know, but what you are bringing as value to the system”,  the Head of Service said, adding that hardwork, diligence, continuous learning and integrity, among other virtues, are necessary for a successful career in the civil service.

Earlier, the Director of Studies (STC), Mrs. Louisa Modebe congratulated the students on their admission into the institute, adding that they made the right choice based on the institute’s antecedents of excellence over the years.

She commended Governor Oborevwori for his financial support, making the programme a successful one, even as she thanked the Head of Service, Mr. reginald Bayoko for his fatherly love and commitment to the affairs of civil servants in the state.  On behalf of the class, Mrs. Angela Anekwe thanked the Head of Service for his kind words and inspiration, even as she pledged that they would imbibe the  teachings of the instructors and make the state government proud.
