The Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has commended the smooth conduct of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) re-sit. She made this statement, yesterday, while monitoring examination centres alongside her team members in Oshimili South and Oshimili North Local Government Areas, respectively.
According to her, 60 schools in Oshimili South wrote their exams at West End Mixed Secondary School, with a total of 419 students sitting for the English paper and 205 for Mathematics, while 13 schools in Oshimili North wrote their exams at Unity Secondary School.
Ezewu highlighted that the re-sit was organized to give students a second chance to improve their grades, allowing candidates from various schools in the state to meet the academic requirements for progression in their education. “This process is part of efforts by educational authorities to ensure that students who struggled in their first attempt have an opportunity to requalify in these critical subjects,” she said.
She urged supervisors to take appropriate action against those who failed to comply with instructions while commending them for their efforts in ensuring the examination’s success.
Some education officials expressed optimism that the re-sit would help more students achieve the necessary academic standards for higher education, while students themselves showed determination to improve their previous scores and advance in their academic careers.
