…As Delta Life-Nd Project Embarks Facilities/Media Tour
The Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises in the Niger Del ta (LIFE-ND) Project, weekend, undertook the tour and inspection of some of its agricultural landmark projects/ facilities in five Local Government Areas of the State.
The projects, which were evidence of the LIFE-ND Project success story in the state are domisiled in Ndokwa East, (Aboh), Ndokwa West (Ndemili), Ika South (Ozanogogo), Ughelli North (Oteri) and Okpe (Oha).
In a media tour that took journalists on an inspection of the projects in the five Local Government Areas, the LIFE-ND Project’s beneficiaries showcased the cassava processing mill at Aboh, Nokia East Local Government Area, fully operational and serving the cassava processing needs of the community – from peeling, washing, drying, grinding, frying and seiving. Speaking to some of the community indigenes, they confessed that the mill had facilitated cassava processing in the area, and commended the LIFE-ND Project for the initiative of siting the mill in the community.
At Ndemili in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, where LIFE-ND Project built another cassava mill; also fully functional, the LIFE-ND Project Desk Officer in the area, Mr. Lewis Osogbue said, the mill had very high prospect in Ndemili because, the community is a predominantly cassava- producing one, therefore, getting enough cassava for milling wouldn’t be a challenge at all.
“People from across Delta State, Port- Harcourt and the North come here to buy garri, which is a by-product of cassava. The cassava mill is, therefore, the best project for the community at this time.
“Beyond that, this is the first cassava automated processing facility in Ndemili, with a daily cassava processing capacity of over one Ton; thanks to LIFE-ND Project for this initiative”, Mr. Osogbue added. At Ozanogogo in Ika South Local Government Area, where LIFE-ND project built a large Poultry house, with state of the art facilities, one of the first circle incubatees of the project, now an incubator, Mercy Ozakpolor, showed Journalists round her cages, containing Broilers and Layers.
“I have just finished selling my Broiler birds and Turkey and what I have now is 220 layers, producing at least four crates of eggs daily. Thanks to LIFE-ND Project in Delta State that has made this possible”, she said.
Another incubatee of the LIFE-ND Project at the poultry facility at Ozanogogo, Mr. Gospel Inabulele, displayed his cage, containing one month, five days old Broiler birds.
Commending LIFE-ND Project in Delta State, for starting him off with N500,00O and 100 day old cheeks, he said, the training by LIFE-ND Project in poultry management has brought a positive turn around to his life. “I was a photographer before I got trained by LIFE-ND Project, and now, my poultry business is my source of livelihood”, he added.
