Benue LG Chairmen Endorse Utaan For PDP National Chairman

THE Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 23 local government areas of Benue have endorsed Mr Conrad Utaan for National Chairman of the party.

The leader of the chairmen, who is the party’s chairman in the Katsina-Ala LGA, Mr Terseer Adigo, stated this at a press conference on Wednesday in Makurdi.

Adigo said that Section 47(6) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended) provided that the replacement of Dr Iyorchia Ayu, the immediate past national chairman, must come from Benue.

He said that provision was to reinforce our great party’s commitment to equity, justice, and fairness as the core principles upon which the party stands.

“It is our firm conviction that since equity, fairness, and justice cannot be fulfilled halfway, even in Benue, the replacement of Ayu must come from the Senatorial District he hails from, which is the Benue North-West,” Adigo said.

He said that they were convinced that the party would re-discover its true identity and take back its pride of place as the most viable political party in Nigeria at large and Benue State in particular.

According to him, for the party to achieve that feat, the local government chairmen of the party must be alive to their responsibilities and duties.

He said that they must take the lead in their various local government areas towards ensuring that the laws of the party were implemented above group and individual interests in the party.

Adigo stated that they must be firm, bold, and courageous in insisting on and doing what was right because only then would the party be revived and made to function as a viable political party, which would once again be attractive to Nigerians.

“It was the wisdom of the leadership of the party at all levels that since Sen. Barnabas Gemade and Mr Audu Ogbe had both previously served in the office of national chairman of the PDP from Zones ‘A’ and ‘C’ of Benue, respectively.

“Dr Ayu was given the opportunity to serve as national chairman from Zone ‘B’.

“It is, therefore, our considered opinion that, in continuation of and fulfilment of the decision for equity, fairness, and justice, a candidate from Zone ‘B’ of Benue be the one to replace Ayu. (NAN)
