Cholera: Ebonyi Govt Confirms Three More Deaths, 69 Cases

THE Ebonyi State Government has confirmed three more deaths following the outbreak of cholera disease that killed 10 persons in Ndibokote village of EzzaInyimagu in the Izzi local government area of the state a few days ago.

Briefing journalists on Saturday in Abakaliki, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, said about 69 cases have also been confirmed across the state. Giving an update on the outbreak, Ekuma stated that other persons affected are responding to treatment at the different treatment centres activated within the communities affected in Ebonyi and Izzi local government areas.

“We have 69 confirmed cases and 13 deaths recorded from a cholera outbreak. Most of the deaths occurred in Ndibokote village of EzzaInyimagu and NdiogbagaObashi community in Izzi local government area,” he said. He pointed out that the state government’s swift response and approval of Governor Francis Nwifuru to procure medical commodities were important steps made in addressing the cholera outbreak.

“The Rapid response team from the state Ministry of Health were immediately drafted to the communities for immediate intervention to curtail the outbreak, so there’s no need for Ebonyians to panic. “Presently, the patients under treatment are responding positively, and we have not recorded any other case for the past 24 hours now,” Ekuma said.
