THE Parish Priest of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Rev. Fr. Norbert Uchuno, has stressed the need for people to shun a life of personal satisfaction without God and live for Christ.
Rev. Fr. Uchuno made the assertion in Okpanam during the funeral mass in honour of a nonagenarian, late Obi (Mrs.) Regina Christiana Ogbechie who died at the age of 97 years.
He said that the deceased lived a life of emulation and was a God fearing woman and urged the children and her family to sustain her legacies.
Earlier in an interview with newsmen, one of the children of the deceased, Mrs. Benedicta Okwudishu stated that her mother was a peace loving woman, disciplinarian who she said, impacted on lives as she was always ready to give out whatever she had to others to make them happy.
Mrs. Okwudishu said that the children would strive to maintain the peace, unity and togetherness that she inculcated in the family.
Also speaking, the Chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Okpanam/Ugbolu ward 9, Engr. Augustine Obiekea emphasised that her peaceful dispositions and her other outstanding qualities would be missed, even as he noted that the deceased was a woman of substance in the community.
In their separate remarks, son-in-laws to one of the daughters of the late nonagenarian, Mr. Prince Obiemenyego, Mr. Duke Titus and the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Okpanam Youths Organization, Comr. Joseph Ogbechie, popularly known as SirJoe as well as some of the grand children of the deceased including Mr. Daniel Achomba Okwudishu and Mrs. Ijeoma Chidoba said that all through the life time of their grandmother, she had brought joy and happiness to their families.
They stated that their nonagenarian grandmother was a great woman and entertainer, stressing that they would miss her smiles and laughter as well as her useful advice.
The burial ceremony was attended by dignitaries including a Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor, Office of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Amb. Felix Ideh , the Isagba Ajieh of Okpanam Kingdom, Chief Dr. Paul Nwayalani and a former Special Assistant to the immediate past Governor, Ogbueshi (Dr.) Anthony Onwuka among others.
