Claims of Oborevwori Defecting to APC Baseless – Oghenesivbe

Allegations that Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been firmly dismissed as baseless, desperate, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, by the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe.

Reacting on behalf of the governor, Oghenesivbe challenged Senator Ned Nwoko, who made the allegation, to present credible evidence to support his claims.

He maintained that Oborevwori remains firmly rooted in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has no intention of switching allegiance.

“We don’t have time for Ned Nwoko. We have spoken extensively on this issue before now. Myself and even the Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu—that the governor is not defecting. These rumours are baseless.” Oghenesivbe said.

The controversy began at the weekend when Senator Nwoko, who defected from the PDP to the APC, alleged during a political gathering in Agbor that Governor Oborevwori was seeking to join the APC.

The event marked the official defection of members of the Delta Unity Group, a socio-political organisation, from the PDP to the APC.

Addressing the crowd, Nwoko said, “Oborevwori wants to come to the APC, but tell him to stay where he is. He will be defeated. We don’t want him in the APC.”

Oghenesivbe, however, described the remarks as politically motivated and misleading, asserting that Governor Oborevwori remains focused on delivering good governance under the PDP-led administration.

He urged Deltans to ignore what he termed “a cheap attempt to stir controversy,” reaffirming that Oborevwori is fully committed to the party’s vision and to the advancement of Delta State.
