By Gift Uwagboe

RESIDENTS of Eziunoamaka Crescent, Bonsaac area of Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area, Delta State, have appealed to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sh  eriff Oborevwori to address the severe annual flooding that has made life unbearable to the people living in the area.

A concerned resident of the area and public affairs commentator, Dr. James Olise, who made the plea in a statement, pointed out that the situation requires the immediate attention of the governor, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the Commissioners for Environment and Works to intervene and provide urgent solutions to address this issue.

According to him, “the confluence of Eziunoamaka Crescent, Henry Sopulu Street, and Alhaji Abdul Kadiri Street has become a focal point of severe flooding due to the blockage of waterways and construction of houses on natural water paths by residents of Henry Sopulu and Alhaji Abdul Kadiri Streets”.

The statement added that the situation has resulted to severe flooding on Eziunoamaka Crescent, rendering it impassable during rainfall, inability of children to attend school during rainy days, and potential damage to properties and infrastructure.

While reiterating the call for the governor and commissioner’s intervention, suggested that government should clear blocked waterways, enforce regulations against building on natural water paths, and implement flood control measures to protect their community.

Olise pleaded with the state government for urgent steps to resolve the flood crisis in the area.
