Delta State First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori has assured members of the Nigerians Association of the Blind (NAB) of inclusiveness and quality education for members in the state.
The wife of the governor stated this, yesterday, during NAB annual convention held in Asaba.
Deaconess Oborevwori, represented by Mrs. Ifeoma Onoriode, praised the Youth Wing for organizing the event, assuring that the state government was dedicated to promoting inclusiveness in governance and ensuring quality education for all segments of society.
Also, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Girl-Child Development, Onoriode Uduaghan, represented by the Director of Humanitarian Affairs, Sir Stanley Medua, disclosed that the Delta State Government has empowered 50 visually impaired individuals in skill acquisition and aims to provide assistive technology to further support them. He encouraged the youth wing to continue their passionate advocacy for persons with disabilities.
Speaking during the NAB annual convention with the theme “Education: The Way Forward and Not Sympathy,” the Youth Coordinator, Odjuwu Isaac, emphasized the need for inclusivity and government support for them to access quality education. Isaac highlighted the lack of special needs schools and rehabilitation centers, resulting in many children being deprived of basic education. He appealed to the government to provide an accessible learning environment and special training for teachers to address the unique needs of visually impaired individuals.
The guest lecturer, Dr. Mrs. Isioma Edozie, in her lecture, stressed the need for access to quality education to empower visually impaired persons and urged society to create an enabling environment for their growth. She also emphasized the importance of self-development for overall enhancement and mental growth.
