THE Director-General of Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, has described the 5th Edition of the Delta State Communication Workshop as a vital initiative to refine information dissemination strategies and promote the policies and programmes of the state government.
Speaking at the three-day workshop, themed “Advancing Delta Strategies for Public Communication and Effective Media Enhancement,” held at Hotel Benizia in Asaba, Oghenesivbe emphasized the need for equipping media professionals with advanced techniques to effectively communicate government policies and achievements. He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his support in sustaining the workshop, which began in 2019 during the administration of former governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa.
“This workshop serves as a tool to sharpen the skills of media practitioners, ensuring they remain competent in delivering accurate and impactful information about the state’s policies and programs,” Dr. Oghenesivbe noted.
He urged participants to leverage the training to improve their communication skills and contribute to effective public engagement.Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, called on media aides and practitioners to actively promote his administration’s MORE Agenda and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He highlighted the importance of countering propaganda and addressing critics unaware of the government’s achievements across various sectors. “Enhancing the skills of media practitioners is essential in promoting the MORE Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda, as both align to foster the development of Delta State,” the governor remarked.
He stressed that media professionals play a pivotal role in sensitizing the public on government initiatives and policies.
The event featured contributions from notable speakers, including Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, represented by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi; Secretary to State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu; Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu; Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen; Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari; and the Director-General of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah.
