The Vice Chancellor, Delta State University, Abraka, Prof Andy Egwunyenga, has commended the Port Harcourt Branch of the University’s Alumni Association for making sacrifices to improve healthcare delivery in the University.
The Vice Chancellor gave the commendation in Abraka when Delta State University Alumni Association (Port Harcourt Branch) presented hospital equipment to the University Health Centre.
Prof Egwunyenga, who was represented at the event by the Director of the University Health Services, Dr. Simeon Onakughotor, expressed delight that the institution’s alumni association was partnering with the University in the provision of efficient healthcare on campus. He recalled that the national body of the alumni association had helped to upgrade facilities in the health centre last year and promised that the hospital equipment would be put to good use. He also enjoined the University Alumni Association and other philanthropists to do more.
While presenting the items, which included two sets each of hospital beds and accessories, glucometers, and blood pressure monitoring machines, Darlington Onovae-Ekeh, Chairman of the Port Harcourt Branch of the Delta State University (Abraka) Alumni Association, emphasized that the university’s alumni in Port Harcourt were deeply committed to supporting their Alma Mater in appreciation of the exceptional education and training they received as students.
He noted that the items were part of their annual programme to give back to the university and were procured based on a needs assessment of the university health centre conducted in consultation with the University’s Director of Health Services..
In her remark at the ceremony, the university’s Director of Ceremonials, Information and Public Relations (CIPR) and Coordinator, Alumni Association, Prof Enajite Ojaruega, said the university was proud of her alumni who she described as worthy ambassadors.
