The Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has started admission for its Centre for Open Distance and E-Learning program, following the official approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to launch the program. This significant milestone allows the university to commence academic activities at the Centre, starting with the BNSc Nursing Science program, delivered through an ICT-enabled blended learning model.
The approval follows a thorough validation process by a panel consisting of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Subject Matter Experts, alongside NUC representatives, who visited the proposed Centre earlier this year. Their recommendations and findings affirmed the Centre’s readiness to operate.
The Centre is set to begin its operations under strict compliance with the guidelines for running ODL programs in Nigerian universities. The vice-chancellor has been informed of the necessity to adhere to these guidelines and to implement the recommendations outlined in the Panel’s Technical Report.
The university has been advised that the introduction of any new programs would be evaluated on an individual basis and would require pre-assessment and approval by the NUC. Additionally, the Centre would undergo periodic monitoring to ensure adherence to best practices and to maintain the high standards expected of such programs.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in expanding educational opportunities through flexible and innovative learning methods, catering to a diverse range of students. The Centre for Open Distance and E-Learning is poised to enhance the accessibility and quality of higher education at Delta State University, Abraka.
