Delta @ 33, A Success Story —Akejelu

AN illustrious son of Ebu kingdom in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Sunny Akejelu, has declared that Delta State has witnessed tremendous transformation in the past 33 years of its existence.

Speaking on the 33 years’ anniversary of the state creation, Hon. Akejelu remarked that through concerted efforts of the government, the major cities and other parts of the state have been transformed with good road network constructed to open up the rural areas, as well as waterways in the riverine areas.

Hon. Akejelu explained that the positive development has helped to boost transportation and commercial activities in the urban and rural areas.

The Ebu born politician, maintained that the state in the past 33 years has recorded landmark achievements in the education sector, stressing that from one university, Delta State University Abraka, the state can now boast of four state owned universities and Polytechnics, making it possible for admission seekers to gain admission into tertiary institutions.

Hon. Akejelu remarked that the number of secondary and primary schools in the state has increased over the years, providing opportunities for pupils and students to pursue their educational goals. Adding the government has also ensured they enjoyed free education at the secondary and primary school level throughout the state.

He maintained that the health sector in the state has witnessed a big boost both in provision of infrastructure, modern medical equipment, medical personnel and service delivery to all the nook crannies of the state. He pointed out that the contributory health insurance scheme initiative of the government have made it possible for vulnerable Deltans to access affordable and quality medical services.

In the area of tourism and entertainment, he declared that the state has evolved as the first choice destination for Nollywood producers, actors and actresses to showcase their trades. He noted that Delta State has emerged as the number one in sporting activities in the country due to government interest and investment in sports.

While giving kudos to the government for embarking on the flyover bridges in Warri, he however implored the government to be more committed to infrastructural development and explore ways to increase the state internally generated revenue.

He called on the government to work towards resuscitating the Sea ports in the state to create employment opportunities and generate more revenue.
