SOME Deltans have lauded past and present administrators and governors of Delta State for contributing their quota to the peace, growth and overall development of the state.
The people said this while speaking on the journey so far since the state was created in 1991 out of the defunct Bendel State.
Those who spoke were the Commissioner for Housing, Hon Godknows Angele, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Kelly Penawou, and the Commissioner for Riverine Infrastructure Development, Chief Ebikeme Clark.
Others are the Chairman of Burutu Local Government, Julius Takaeme, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sonny Ekadeyen, Chief Fred Majemite and Chief Julius Babogha.
They said the ability of the state to overcome the Itsekiri and Ijaw crisis that occurred upon creation was worth celebrating, pointing out that the democratically-elected governors built on the foundation laid by the military administrators.
According to them, the administrations from 1999 till date had continuity of projects by the different governors, expressing hope that the state has fared better than other states created on the same date in terms of infrastructure and socioeconomic development.
The respondents said the establishment of a new ministry to fast-track development in riverine communities by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori would ultimately bring a new dawn to the area and called on the federal government to champion development in oil-bearing communities in the Niger Delta region.
They enjoined Deltans to throw their weight behind Governor Oborevwori to enable him to deploy his MORE Agenda to the advantage of all Deltans.
