THE All Progressives Congress Delta Unity Forum (ADULF) has called for the urgent intervention of President Bola Tinubu and the National Chairman of the party to resolve the ongoing leadership crisis within the APC in Delta State.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Convener of ADULF and aspirant for the House of Representatives, Ughelli North/Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency (2003), Vona Uwadehwe alongside other team members, highlighted concerns over the deepening conflicts that has continued to divide the party.
According to him, the internal crisis, if left unresolved, could jeopardize APC’s chances of securing victory in the 2027 elections.
According to him, the leadership crisis, which escalated after the 2023 general elections, has created divisions within the party, with key leaders reportedly aligning with different factions.
While Uwadehwe refrained from naming specific individuals involved in the dispute, he stressed that party leaders are at the center of the conflict, saying that their disagreements are affecting members.
He attributed APC’s failure in the 2023 Delta State governorship election partly to these internal divisions, noting that despite the efforts made to deliver victory, unresolved conflicts continued to weaken the party’s chances.
“We have observed the growing leadership disputes within the APC in Delta State, and we believe it is time to take action. As concerned party members, we cannot remain silent while these issues persist.
‘’We have, therefore, come together to form a strong, unified voice calling on Mr. President and the National Chairman (of the Party) to intervene and restore order,” Uwadehwe said.
“After the elections, and following the rulings of the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court, we have witnessed a surge in political tensions. Several revelations emerged, and it became clear that these lingering issues had a significant impact on our performance,” he said.
The APC Delta Unity Forum emphasized that its goal was not to place blame but to find a lasting solution to the crisis. Uwadehwe insisted that reconciliation among leaders is crucial for the party’s survival and success in future elections.
“We strongly believe that unity is the key to reclaiming Delta State in 2027. If we remain divided, our collective efforts will be in vain. That is why, in the coming weeks, we will be engaging with key leaders—those directly involved in the crisis—to appeal to them to put aside their differences in the interest of the party,” he said.
“Can two walk together unless they agree?” to emphasize the importance of unity in securing APC’s victory in future elections. The forum is now calling on President Tinubu to intervene and resolve the crisis before it causes further damage to the party’s structure in Delta State.
“We trust in Mr. President’s leadership and his ability to handle complex political issues. He has successfully resolved tougher challenges in the past, and we believe he can do the same for Delta APC,” Uwadehwe said.
He further warned that if the crisis continues to escalate, many party faithful may lose confidence in the system, leading to a weakened APC in the state.
“We urge Mr. President to take this issue seriously and act with urgency. His leadership at the national level has been remarkable, and we need his intervention to restore peace within the Delta State APC,” he added.
Uwadehwe noted that the Forum remains optimistic that peace and reconciliation can be achieved before the 2027 elections. However, the success of their efforts will largely depend on the willingness of party leaders to set aside personal interests and work towards a common goal.
The forum also paid a working visit to the Minority Caucus of the Delta State House of Assembly, where they outlined the purpose of their engagement, urging the members to join their call for unity and use their positions as state leaders to help address the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
