THE Delta State Sports Commission has lined up athletes to compete for the State at the forth coming Niger Delta Sports Festival scheduled for April 2025 at Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
This was observed at the ongoing Niger – Delta Sports Festival trial primarily aimed at discovering the best athletes to represent the various States at the Festival.
The athletes, who are competing in different events, are putting their best effort to ensure that they are selected to be part of the team that will be in Uyo, being the maiden edition of the event.
The display of skills and vigour by these players created feelings of highly trained and polished professionals who know their onions in their games and do not need another evidence to produce how committed they can be.
The athletics events that were in the main bowl of Stephen Keshi Stadium were done with great enthusiasm at speeds not expected as if they are in the final trials. The speed of those in 100M, 400M, 800M and 1500M were quite impressive and gave much joy for the handlers
The Head Coach however, advised them to put in more effort as their best cannot be attained at the first trial and having started well, they have the option of doing much better in the subsequent efforts and they must be mindful of the unknown strength of the other states who are coming with the intention of ensuring that they triumph over Delta.
The total of sixty eight athletes will be representing the State at Uyo in athletics events comprising thirty four male and same numbers of female athletes.
The Table Tennis event was another place of interest at the trials as the players showed good effort at their games and became the glory of the moment; with eight male and four female players and they are now ready to successfully represent the State at the tournament.
