Delta Butchers’ Union Set To Conduct Election

THE National Butchers Union of Nigeria, Delta State Chapter, is set to conduct an election for its various elective positions following a court order that directed immediate election to fill the executive positions.

The positions were shared among members from the state’s three senatorial districts. In Delta Central, positions to be contested are vice chairman, secretary-general, deputy chairman, PRO 1, organizing secretary 11, publicity secretary 11, district chairman, ex-officio, and state woman leader. Positions for Delta South are second vice chairman, publicity secretary 1, state treasurer, PRO 11, Welfare officer 11, assistant financial secretary, district chairman, and ex-officio.

Also, positions to be occupied by Delta North are state chairman, financial secretary, assistant secretary-general, organizing secretary 1, welfare officer 1, state auditor, district chairman, and ex-officio.

Meanwhile, an Asaba High Court presided over by Justice P. N. Obanor (Mrs.), while ruling on terms of settlement filed by contending parties in the butchers’ union, dissolved the factional executives of Delta State Butchers Union led by Comrade David Akusu, and the National Butchers Union of Nigeria led by Chief Isaac Adidi, and set up an interim executive council to administer the union.

The court ruled that the interim executive shall be headed by a chairman from Delta Central who will stay for one year, conduct an election, and hand over to an elected chairman from Delta North at the end of his tenure.

The court also pointed out that based on the settlement terms, the two bodies shall come together under one umbrella as the National Butchers Union of Nigeria, adding that the parties must terminate all cases pending in the court and act in good faith to each other at all times.

The court case was filed by David Akusu, Comrade Livinus Nnaji. Ochuko Emevor, Darlington Nnaji, Peter Onuoha, and Toju Awala as claimants, and Isaac Adidi, Okwudili Chime, Godwin Emudjakpor, Atunusha Pope, and Godwin Orhewo as defendants.
