Delta Community Jubilates Over New Electricity Transformer

THE people of Alihame Inwa community, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, have commended the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) for installing a transformer in the community to boost the electricity supply in the area. This commendation was given by one of the elders of the community, Macaulay Okwunkwu, who spoke to journalists at the Community Town Hall, opposite All Saints Catholic Church in Alihame, Agbor.

Okwuokwu, in a brief interview, said that poor power supply had been the bane of the community due to the lack of enough transformers to boost electricity supply, adding that the Alihame community, especially Inwa, is expanding in terms of development. He appreciated the efforts of the late Dr Cairo Ojougboh, who in the past, donated a new transformer to the community which had been serving the community, while also appealing to other indigenes of the community, donor agencies and the government for more transformers.

He also thanked the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chiedu Ebie, for the ongoing installation of street lights in the Ika nation from which Alihame immensely benefited. The contractor handling the installation of the transformer, Victor Nwaokenye, said the transformer had been fully installed and that it was being test run, awaiting connection to the national grid by officials of BEDC.
