In a grand ceremony held in Sapele, Delta State, the wife of the Governor of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori was, honoured as the Chief Ambassador of Scouts for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Delta State.
The event, which was part of the summer Scouts camp, was attended by dignitaries, including the Orodje of Okpe, HRM Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), wife of the Olu of Warri, Her Royal Majesty, Olori Atuwatse III, and the founder of Valley Stream British School, Chief Dr Godday Erewa and a host of others.
Deaconess Tobore, who was represented at the event by the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Women Development, Chief Mrs. Eunice Anirah, expressed her delight at being appointed as the Chief Ambassador.
She encouraged the children to be future-forward, stay focused, and read their books, emphasizing that the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, is youth-friendly and has appointed many young people to government positions.
Her Royal Majesty, Olori Atuwatse III emphasized that the global future depends on the values taught to children. She commended the Delta State Government for embracing the SDGs initiative and urged other states to follow suit.
At the event, the Honourable Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, who was represented by Hon Justice Anthony Akpovi, delivered a poignant message. She emphasized that being a scout embodies two essential qualities: discipline and exposure.
She noted that scouting fosters a sense of responsibility, self-reliance, and teamwork, which are vital for personal growth and development. Furthermore, scouting provides a platform for young people to explore new experiences, challenge themselves, and develop valuable skills that would benefit them throughout their lives.
The State Director General of SDGs, Chief Daniel Ivwighren, commended the Special Assistant to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Lady Daina Ereyitomi, for organizing the program, praising her capability and emphasized that the SDGs was all about scouting and sharpening the mindset of young ones.
On his part, the founder of Valley Stream British School, Chief Dr Godday Erewa, expressed his honour at hosting the event, which he described as the first of its kind in Delta State. He appreciated everyone who made the program valuable and successful.
The organizer of the program and Special Assistant to Gov Oborevwori, Lady Daina Ereyitomi appreciated everyone’s support for the success of the summer Scouts event, with children from various parts of the state in attendance.
The appointment of Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori as Chief Ambassador of Scouts for SDGs in Delta State is a testament to her commitment to the development of young people in the state. Her role will involve promoting the SDGs initiative and encouraging young people to take action towards achieving the goals.
The SDGs initiative is a global agenda adopted by the United Nations in 2015, aimed at ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all. The initiative has 17 goals, including quality education, gender equality, and climate action.
The summer Scouts camp was designed to educate children on the SDGs and encourage them to take action towards achieving the goals. The camp featured various activities, including Storytelling, Tree Planting, health, Cooking, SGDs Challenges, Football Match, Flag Ceremonies, Campfire, Outdoor Adventures, all aimed at sharpening the mindset of the young ones.
