Civil servants in Delta State have been called upon to uphold the highest standards of discipline and commitment to duty to achieve the goals of the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration as captured in the MORE Agenda.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme made the call when he paid unscheduled visits to the various departments and units in the Ministry.
He said that a functional and responsive public service is key to achieving the government’s mandate of delivering the dividend of democracy to Deltans and residents alike.
The commissioner further explained that punctuality and diligence were essential in achieving the MORE Agenda, thereby improving service delivery across all sectors in the State, which ultimately will play a vital role in the development of the State.
“I intentionally chose this morning to carry out this monitoring exercise to get first-hand information on the punctuality and commitment level of members of staff to their duties.
“Lateness, laxity and absence from place of duty without permission will not be tolerated, hence I’m sending this note of warning that disciplinary measures will be enforced for habitual lateness and dereliction of duty.
The Commissioner commended those in their place of duty and urged them to remain committed while he directed that names of those who were absent from duty without permission be compiled immediately and sent to him as appropriate disciplinary measures will be meted out accordingly.
