The organized labour leaders in Delta State has charged journalists not to abandon the masses, adding that their constitutional role of holding the government accountable should not be compromised.

The State Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Martins Bolum, gave the charge during Delta State NUJ Council’s parley to party’ programme held at the Press Centre in Asaba. He said that journalists, as members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, should not abandon the struggle to free the masses from the oppressors’ clutches.

Bolum expressed worry on the silence of journalists over the many injustices in the country.

The labour leader explained that the working class were not the enemies of journalists but the ruling class.

Also speaking, the Chairman of NLC, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku said that the Oborevwori administration was ready to pay the national minimum wage of N70,000 but was only waiting for the Federal Government to bring the template.

He, therefore, urged workers to be patient with the government. On payment of pensions, Ofobruku warned pensioners not to transfer their money to insurance companies because of the failure rate of payment.
