Delta PCRC Chairman Urges Stakeholders To Prioritize Security

BY CHRISTY ABOGHE

Delta State Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Comrade Oliver Eyefia, has enjoined all stakeholders to prioritize security and support security agencies in their communities.

Eyefia gave the advice during the 3rd edition of the Police Community Relations Committee Security Summit, with the theme “Equipping One’self In Enhancing Adequate Community Policing In the More Agenda”, held in Asaba.

He said enhancing security in their neighborhoods is in their best interest.

He said “it is unfortunate that security which is described as everybody’s business is being neglected and the police and other security agencies cannot do it alone, as they cannot be everywhere at the same time, reason why the summit is necessary”.

The state chairman said the two-day summit will equip members on security knowledge on how to protect their environment, neighborhoods and on how they can support the police.

According to him, the essence of the security summit was to bring members of the Police Community Relations Committee and other critical stakeholders, including security agencies together to see how we can chart a way forward.

Speaking, the National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan, who was represented by the National Vice Chairman of PCRC South-South, Amb. Kenneth Otuonunyo, described PCRC as the bridge between the community and the police, adding that they were the ones who can help provide tips on how to track down criminals.

Olaniyan said the PCRC’s responsibility in the community is to educate the communities on the police functions, the role they play in safeguarding lives and property and how they can help to make police better.

In a keynote address , the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, who was represented by his Special Assistant, Mr. Tonnie Egun urged all “to see security as everyone’s business”.

The event featured lectures, discussions, investiture of  a new state patron, award presentation, amongst others
