Delta, Police Move Against Security Threats

State To Equip Security Agencies With Improved Crime Fighting Tools –Osuoza

BY PATRICK MGBODO

The Delta State Government and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have intensified collaboration to bolster security in the state and combat the emerging trend of kidnapping.

The move became necessary following the abduction of former state and federal lawmaker and immediate past commissioner for Technical Education in the state, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, who was kidnapped in broad daylight in the state capital, recently.

Commissioner for Information, Dr. Michael Osuoza reiterated the commitment of the state government to security matters during a visit by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe. Osuoza restated the commitment of the state government to  security.

‘’The state government will ensure to do everything possible in giving security agencies all the assistance towards making sure that we nip this menace of kidnapping in the bud. It is an emerging trend; people are scared because of the last incident which affected Ada Anioma (Hon Onyemaechi).  ‘’The brazen way her abductors came and took her is something that nobody is happy about. We thank God that has regained her freedom. As a government, we will keep doing everything on our part towards ensuring that the police and other security agencies are equipped with the right tools to work.

‘’However, this does not suggest that the security situation in the state is bad. If people are still able to go about their normal businesses, it means the situation is under control’’ Osuoza said.  The state’s spokesman commended the police for its efforts to ensure security in the state, even as he stressed the need for a deeper collaboration with journalists and media practitioners in combating false news spread through social media.

Earlier, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe, briefed the information commissioner on measures initiated to combat insecurity, fueled by the propagation of fake news on the internet through unpatriotic visitors residing in the state.
